Community Schools at John Muir Middle School

At John Muir Middle School, we are proud to be part of the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP). This program helps ensure that every student thrives academically, socially, and emotionally. Through our Community Schools approach, we provide integrated support systems that include mental health counseling, youth development programs, family engagement, and academic interventions tailored to the needs of our students.

Community Schools: 2025–2026 Year in Review

This past year, our staff, counselors, and community partners worked hand-in-hand to launch initiatives that empower our students and prepare them for the global stage. Here are the major highlights of what we achieved together this year:

Preparing Falcons for the Future (College & Career Readiness)

We are demystifying the path to higher education and meaningful careers early! This year, our comprehensive counseling program brought real-world planning directly to our students:

High School & Beyond: Our 8th graders received personalized support mapping out high school graduation goals, understanding A-G college requirements, and exploring Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways.
Early College Opportunities: Through our partnership with Chabot College, rising 8th grade students explored Dual Enrollment opportunities, giving them a head start on earning college credits while still in secondary school.
Career Exploration: Our 6th and 7th graders utilized state-of-the-art career assessments and interest profilers to connect their personal passions with future academic and professional goals.

Empowering Student Voices & Inclusivity

A thriving school community is one where every student feels seen, heard, and valued.

Liberando Nuestras Voces: We proudly launched this culturally relevant creative writing program, empowering 40 young women in our English Language Development (ELD) program to share their unique stories through art, creative writing, and expression.
Restorative Campus Climate: By expanding our school-wide restorative practices and counselor-led peer mediation networks, we focused on building deep empathy, conflict resolution skills, and a true sense of belonging across campus.

Targeted Academic Excellence

We meet our students exactly where they are to ensure no one falls behind.

Accelerated Literacy: Our dedicated Reading Intervention Program provided intensive, small-group literacy support to our students during core advisory periods, successfully boosting classroom confidence and foundational reading skills.
Rapid Student Support (COST): Our Coordination of Services Team (COST) optimized its weekly multidisciplinary framework, allowing administrators, counselors, and behavioral specialists to build a synchronized safety net for students needing academic or wellness intervention.

A True Partnership with Families

Our school cannot thrive without you! Through the Falcon Family Organization (FFO), School Site Council (SSC), and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), Muir families have stepped up as true co-leaders—helping us shape budget priorities, enrich after-school programming (ASES/ELO-P), and design a safer, more welcoming campus.
