The Board may establish other committees, as necessary. Unless specifically authorized by the Board to act on its behalf, Board committees shall act in an advisory capacity. When its duties have been completed, the committee shall be dissolved.
The goal of the Board of Education is to foster a positive relationship with the City of San Leandro and to identify areas of mutual interest with the City Council to support the District’s mission of promoting student achievement (liaison), to ensure that actions taken by District staff support the vision for student achievement and to communicate expectations regarding the overall climate that the Board and the community wish to exist in the schools (communications) and to serve as an advocate for San Leandro students by actively seeking the passage of policy and legislation favorable to the District (advocacy).

There are two committees with two agendas that meet one right after the other.
The Curriculum Committee supports the vision for student achievement and District staff implementation by reviewing curriculum development and adoptions as well as new or revised courses of study. Contracts or processes for procuring assessments, instructional materials and professional development opportunities are previewed in the committee before they go to the larger Board of Education.
The Policy Committee meets to preview and update Board policies before Board adoption to ensure alignment with current state and federal requirements, as well as local responsibilities. The Policy Committee also discusses the implications of legal or policy shifts and supports processes to ensure alignment and strong implementation.

The goal of the Board of Education is to ensure fiscal solvency of the District and accountability by adopting and monitoring a budget that allows the District to effectively and efficiently achieve the results described in the district’s Strategic Plan. The committee meetings center around the budget development calendar (September, December, March, and June).

The goal of the Board of Education is to ensure that district facilities and technology support classroom instruction as well as district operations. The committee addresses the priorities and requirements of bond programs for Measure N and Measure J. The calendar of meetings is set by the committee and is aligned with Board meeting dates to ensure that bond project needs are met in a timely manner.
