Certificated Employees of the Year
Every year the San Leandro Unified School District recognizes exemplary employees nominated for this distinction by their peers.
This year the district has named the following staff for recognition:
SLUSD Teacher of the Year: Sean Cavanaugh, Wilson Elementary, 3rd-grade
SLUSD Classified Employee of the Year: Claudia Costa, John Muir Middle, administrative assistant
SLUSD Leadership Employee of the Year: Lynda Hornada, Garfield Elementary, Principal
Some of the comments from their peers that led to these well-deserved awards include:
Sean Cavanaugh is consistently the kindest, most supportive, and professional colleague! When I think of who embodies the core values of our school and our district, I think of Sean. He is such an incredible leader at our school and takes on many more roles than just classroom teaching. He is a remarkable role model for our whole community, and I admire him so much!
Claudia Costa is one of the most essential, helpful, and kind people at John Muir. She is responsive to all members of the community and works tirelessly to help any and all who ask. She is an excellent example of a John Muir Falcon who stands up, stands strong, and stands together.
Lynda Hornada led our site with compassion and integrity during one of the most challenging periods in public education. She truly cares for the students, families, and employees at Garfield. She is simply the best.
