Accounting & Business

Administrative Assistant & Payroll Tech Programs

These programs include Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, & PowerPoint. Keyboarding lessons, activities, and job skills will be integrated into the class. One proficiency test each for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and typing will be included.
85% attendance, 100% classwork and instructor-evaluated completion of all assigned projects are required.

Prerequisites: Basic computer, internet, and email skills.

Administrative Assistant certificates issued upon completion of all of the following:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, & PowerPoint
  • A keyboarding score of at least 45 wpm
  • Integrated communication in the workplace
  • 75% or higher on each proficiency test

*Payroll Technician requirements include Administrative Assistant Program plus the Payroll Accounting class (Offered in Summer 2026).

CLERICAL & OFFICE STAFF TRAINING PROGRAM

San Leandro Unified School District is always in need of regular and substitute clerical office staff.  Permanent staff members often start as substitute employees. Get your foot in the door by learning the communication skills and basic computing required to excel at the job and to prepare for the application test. This class is paced for English Language Learners.

This class is also excellent preparation for the Administrative Assistant Certification Program.

ACCOUNTING I

Accounting for a service business organized as a proprietorship: changes that affect the accounting equation; analyzing transactions into debit and credit parts; recording transactions in a general journal; posting to a general ledger; cash control systems; financial statements; adjusting and closing entries. Class includes accounting for a merchandising business organized as a corporation: journalizing purchases, cash payments, sales and cash receipts using special
journals; preparing payroll records; payroll accounting taxes and reports; accounting cycles for a corporation; journalizing and posting transactions; distributing dividends and preparing a worksheet; financial statements; and recording and adjusting closing entries.

CUSTOMER SERVICE & BUSINESS COMMUNICATION

Prepare for your future in any business environment or college. This class provides basic skills training including: computer & internet, filing, email, Google apps, phone & office etiquette, and tools for employment and education success. This class is paced for English Language Learners.

This class is also excellent preparation for the Administrative Assistant Certification Program.

INTRODUCTION TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP

This course introduces the basics of entrepreneurship. Students will learn what it takes to become an entrepreneur. Understand the steps necessary to develop a new business from analyzing a business opportunity, creating a business plan, identifying marketing strategies and sources of capital as well as the framework for starting a new business.
