Meet the new McKinley Principal

Welcome to Nicholas Easter who has accepted the position of principal of McKinley Elementary School. Born in Oakland and raised on the edge of San Leandro, Nick Easter has come of age in the Bay Area while attending K-12 in San Lorenzo schools. After attending undergrad at San Jose State, and joining the YMCA where he worked as an elementary afterschool/summer program leader and eventually director for 6 years, he began to fall in love with the idea of teaching. He would then go on to get his Masters and Teaching Credential from the University of Southern California and began to teach History in Oakland.

While learning and working towards restorative justice, race and equity, he became interested in administration. He would then enroll in the Principal Leadership Institute at the University of California Berkeley as their social justice mission aligned with his passions and curiosities. After completing the program, he was hired at Bancroft Middle School where he worked for the past two years, taking the lead in bringing to life some of the social justice work he envisioned in partnership with the school staff. While he has built strong relationships and connections with staff, students, and families, he is excited to start his new chapter, working alongside the educators, families, and students at Mckinley Elementary.
