Meet the new McKinley Principal
Rachel Vatannia is a Philadelphia native who currently resides in San Leandro with her partner, child, and fur babies. She graduated with her undergraduate degree in Child and Adolescent Development from San Jose State University. She continued with San Jose State to receive her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, as well as, her master’s in Education and Curriculum Design. Ms. Vatannia also holds an English Language Supplemental Authorization and an Administrative Services Credential. Currently, she is a doctoral candidate at California State University East Bay. She has over 15 years of experience in education, including 2 years of teaching ESL abroad to elementary students and 3 years working within San Leandro Unified School District as an Intervention Specialist, Coordinator of Education Services, and now interim Principal at McKinley. Ms. Vatannia is a dedicated social justice leader and advocate. She strongly believes that the needs of the whole child must be held at the center of everything we do in order to provide a safe and caring learning environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth. She is an active hands-on teacher leader who loves to laugh and be in community with students, family, and staff. Ms. Vatannia is very excited to become an honorary Eagle!
