SLUSD Announces COVID-19 Protocols for 2022-23

SLUSD School Board Votes to Rename Woodrow Wilson to Halkin Elementary

At the May 10th school board meeting, trustees voted to approve the renaming of Wilson Elementary School to Halkin Elementary after the culmination of a two-year community engagement process. Halkin Elementary was one of the names put forth by the school for consideration to honor the history of the area now known as San Leandro, which is in the traditional Halkin homeland between San Leandro Creek and San Lorenzo Creek of the Chochenyo and the Bay Mewuk Ohlone people, per the San Leandro Historical Society and local indigenous groups in the San Leandro community.

School Masking Update: SLUSD to Follow State/County Recommendations

Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) announced the decision to align with the updated state guidance which ended the legally mandated requirement for masking in TK-12 schools. ACPHD is now transitioning to a “strongly recommended” policy due to the dramatically lowered rates of COVID in Alameda County.
