A Message from the JMMS Administration
Dear Muir Community,

We have officially finished the first semester of the 24-25 school year! It has gone by so quickly, and this semester has been filled with fun events and moments that have brought us and our students so much community and happiness. This week, we ended with a cupcake decorating party and notes of appreciation for our staff from students. Thank you to Mrs. DeVera for your organization and leadership to making our final weeks before break such a joy!

Don't forget to fill out the California Healthy Kids Survey, click on this link to access it. The school that has the highest participation rates wins a prize! Right now we only have 16 responses!

Please also make sure to read below for more information on our 8th grade promotion ceremony and requirements. For our 8th grade families, for your child to be able to promote, you must attend one of our information meetings in January. The dates are below in the school information section. Please make plans to attend only one.

When we return, on Wednesday January 8th we will have an early release day at 1pm to allow our teachers and staff to collaborate with Bancroft staff to provide better instruction and support for your student. There will be no office hours or tutoring on that Wednesday.

We hope you have an amazing, relaxing, and safe winter break, and we can't wait to welcome your child back to our campus in 2025!

Take care,

Elisa Alvarez, Dylan Charrin-Nguyen & Mycel Jacob

Dear Muir Families,

As the holiday season approaches, we want to remind you that winter break begins on Friday, December 20th, 2024, and runs through the New Year. We will return to school on Monday, January 6th, 2025.

Wishing you all a restful and joyful break with family and friends! ❄️🎉

See you in the New Year! ✨
8th Grade Promotion Information
It is hard to believe we are now getting ready for all the 8th grade promotion events. In order for our 8th graders to participate, we have academic, behavioral, and attendance expectations that must be met. .

Parents and Guardians, we have 3 meetings where we review the requirements and information regarding 8th Grade Promotion events. A parent/guardian must attend at least one of these meetings to ensure that your child is able to participate in Promotion. The meetings are as follows:

  • Thursday January 9th, 7pm on Zoom (Link will be posted on school calendar and parent square)
  • Friday January 10th, 8:30am in person in the JMMS Library
  • Tuesday January 14th, 7pm on Zoom (Link will be posted on school calendar and parent square)

When we return from Winter Break, the administration will be visiting 8th graders in science classes to discuss the requirements and pass out the contracts. Both the student and the parent/guardian must sign the contract. You may preview the contract here, and it is also linked to this Parent Square (Spanish & Chinese translations are in the document as well).
Early Release Day, 1/8/25
Students will be dismissed at 1pm on Wednesday, January 8th for a staff PD. Attached is the bell schedule.

There will be tutoring after school in B Hall or in C-2. Tutoring will resume on Thursday, January 9th.

SSC
What is SSC?
The School Site Council (SSC) is a group of teachers, parents, students (at the secondary school level), and classified employees, that work with the principal to develop, review, and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. SSC members don’t just represent their own interests. They have an obligation to make decisions that will best serve the whole school community. Our SSC is specifically charged with finding ways to close gaps in achievement between groups of students while meeting the needs of all of our students. The members of the site council are generally elected by their peers.
