Dear Muir Community, We are so proud of our Falcons! We want to acknowledge our 7th and 8th grade students who have been setting such a great example of what it means to be a Muir Falcon for our newest Falcons in the 6th grade. This past week the admin team visited history classes to introduce ourselves to all our students and go over a few expectations with students which included:
- Reminding students we are a cell phone/electronic free school. During the school day the expectation is that all students put away their cell phones/electronic devices. If a student is found to be using it, the device will be confiscated and turned into the office for pick up by the student the first time, and a parent/guardian will need to pick it up anytime after the first infraction.
- Our Falcon Store is open every Thursday after school for students to use their Falcon Bucks, which they earn for showing respect, responsibility, and reflection. We have snacks, prizes, games, clothes, sports equipment, and other fun prizes for students to buy. If you have anything that is new or like new that you would like to donate, please drop it by the office!
- We also discussed all the different supports we have at Muir for our students and emphasized that we resolve any conflict through our words and not physical action. Students were told of all the adults and systems we have in place for them to utilize including our therapists, counselors, teachers, cool off spaces, mediation spaces, and reporting system for help. We have zero tolerance for fighting and any student who does fight will be suspended and have a referral to Youth Forum (formerly called Youth Court), which is a service provided to schools in Alameda county to teach students to take accountability for their actions.
We are also continuing to adjust our support in our cafeteria. Today, the lines were long and we apologize for that. As we have done in the past, and will continue to do, any student who is still in line or was in line the few minutes before the end of lunch bell rings, they will be allowed to stay and finish their food before heading to their next class with an excusal pass. To help the lines move quicker, please make sure your student is confident with their student ID number, as they must enter their student ID number when exiting the lunch line. All breakfast and lunch are free at school for all students.
Thank you so much for a wonderful start to the school year! Please make sure to read through this newsletter as it has more important information below on lockers, chromebooks, sports, and other information below. Take care,
Elisa Alvarez, Dylan Charrin-Nguyen & Mycel Jacob

School Information |
Schedule Changes: To make sure our class sizes meet our school and state size requirements we have had to make some schedule changes for students. We also wanted to let you know that based on student test scores and grades, some students will be moving into a math support class very soon, called Math Lab.
Lockers: Our locker support team has been busy all week visiting elective classes to support students with their locker problems. We want to make sure every student feels confident with their locker so this process has taken longer than anticipated, we hope to have this complete by this coming Tuesday. Students are allowed to continue to carry their backpacks until they feel confident with their locker. If a student is still having issues with their locker they should stop by the front office and fill out a blue locker slip. We will make an announcement as to when backpacks should all be stored in lockers.

Chromebook: If you do not have a functioning Chromebook at home please fill out this form as soon as possible! Chromebooks are needed for homework. Please click HERE to electronically sign for the Chromebook. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to one of our parent facilitators.
Early Release Day: On Tuesday September 17th, students will be dismissed at 1pm to allow our teaching staff to receive important time for professional development to better support your student. Please make sure to mark this information on your calendar!
