SAN LEANDRO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
"Making Excellence Our Tradition"
May/June, 2024
Halkin Elementary's inspiration for end-of-year testing
Dear SLUSD Community,

As the 2023-2024 school year draws to a close, it’s time to celebrate May—a month filled with expressions of gratitude. I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to our incredible staff, who consistently provide our students with a safe and nurturing environment. Please join me in showing them our appreciation; a simple thank-you note, a moment of your time volunteering, or a warm conversation can make all the difference.

This month, we also celebrate our community's remarkable mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures. Their dedication and love shape our families and support our children’s growth. Let’s honor their enduring influence and care.
Thank you all for contributing to our community. Let’s cherish this time of appreciation and continue to support each other.

Warmest regards,

Dr. Mike McLaughlin
Superintendent

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

Mental Health Awareness Month is observed in May every year to raise awareness about mental health issues and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness. It provides an opportunity to educate people about mental health's importance, encourage them to seek help when needed, and promote ways to maintain good mental health.

Mental health affects everyone, and we can all take steps to support mental health and wellness in ourselves and others. This can include exercise, good nutrition, self-care, and supporting others by listening without judgment, offering encouragement, and connecting them to professional help when needed.

If you or someone you know wants to be connected to a mental health care provider, contact Care Solace, a complimentary and confidential mental health care coordination service provided by San Leandro Unified School District:
Call 888-515-0595. Multilingual support is available 24/7/365.
Visit www.caresolace.com/slusdfamilies and either search on your own OR click “Book Appointment” for assistance by video chat, email, or phone.

While they can provide valuable information and support, they should be viewed as supplementary resources to professional help and trusted adults in a child’s life. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health concerns, please consult with a mental health professional for guidance on individualized resources and support.
