Principal Update
Greetings James Monroe,

This is principal McNeil.
This week it has been great to have family members meeting with teachers as we build our partnership in the education of our children.

Remember we have extra early out days for the remainder of this week (11:40/12:50 dismissal.) Fourth and Fifth graders have two additional days of Extra Early Dismissal (12:50,) Monday and Tuesday of next week. Please make sure that you have plans for your child's pick up on those days.
There will be no enrichment Friday, Oct. 13th or Monday, Oct. 16th. Please plan accordingly.

Congratulations to Jeffrey Liu for being recognized with the Superintendent's Award. Jeffrey is receiving this award for the following reasons: "Jeffrey Liu is receiving the Superintendent's award for James Monroe for his dedication to service to our school through serving as a leader on our Student Green Team. Jeffrey works on the Green Team every lunch supporting our efforts to sort our trash and reduce the waste that goes to the landfill. Jeffrey is also an inclusive member of our community who works well and collaborates with everyone. Jeffrey is everyone's friend and he is a caring ally. Jeffrey is a role model to younger students and an overall great Eagle Leader!" Congratulations Jeffrey and Family!

It is a great opportunity for first time parents, or those who want a refresher. The written curriculum comes in all different languages so please consider joining us. This is a great way to meet other families and build community within our school. We will be learning together, and also doing an art project each session. We will meet monthly on Friday Mornings. Please reach out to Ms. J if you are interested in participating rjauregui@slusd.us  Or you can respond to this post! Just say you are interested in joining School Smarts!

Online Student Safety Forum (In Real Life)
All SLUSD families are invited to this community event to talk about Student Safety Online.
Date: Tuesday, October 17, 2023, 6:00-8:00pm
Location: Madison Elementary School 14751 Juniper St, San Leandro, CA 94579
Topic: Exploring Student Safety in the Digital World

Monroe families, I hope to see you there (at Madison Elementary) for this important community meeting!

In today's age, our young individuals are navigating both the virtual realm and the physical world simultaneously. For some, their online identity, friendships, and activities hold a significance equal to or even surpassing their in-person experiences. How can we guide our students in cultivating a sense of safety, responsibility, and positive engagement in online spaces?

We extend an invitation to parents, guardians, and the community members of K-8th grade families for an engaging discussion on managing our children's online presence. How can we provide our students with personal space while ensuring their safety? What influence does social media have on their overall well-being? Moreover, what role do parents play in encouraging a constructive digital footprint?

Blaze Consulting will provide valuable tools and resources to enhance our dialogue during this session. Food and childcare will be provided.
Spanish and Chinese translations will be provided. Raffle Prizes!
