MLK Day Activities

I have a dream.

"The time is always right to do what is right."

Dear Madison Families,

How perfect that we celebrate the life of MLK just at the start of the new year -- it offers the opportunity to make resolutions about the steps we each can take to foster a more just world.

This week our students learned about the life of Dr. King and his good efforts toward the struggle for freedom and equality for all. Students were also taught about his death, causing some students to feel deeply saddened by the way in which his life was taken. We honor his life, his words, and his vision by learning about his life's work for justice. I invite you to share some of the resources in this newsletter with your family to learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Wishing you all a safe and comforting three day weekend, see you all back at Madison on Jan. 16.

In the future."

For many educators, teaching Martin Luther King, Jr.'s keynote address from the 1963 "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom," which is widely known as his "I Have a Dream" speech, can be daunting. The speech is monumental for its impact, and it is often the main avenue teachers use to teach about it's author.

Enacting MLK's dream

Mix It Up!

Mix It Up!

Mix It Up at Lunch Day is an international campaign that encourages students to identify, question and cross social boundaries. Schools can host a Mix It Up event on any day of the year! Students consistently identify the cafeteria as a place in their school where divisions are clearly-and harshly-drawn.
