Setting the Stage for Success in the New School Year
August 19, 2024
Superintendent and cabinet visit Halkin Elementary
Dear San Leandro Unified Staff and Families,
Welcome back to a new school year filled with excitement and promise! As we kick off this year, I am thrilled to share that our district is growing and thriving, with more staff than ever returning for another year, demonstrating the strong sense of belonging that defines our community.

In this month's newsletter, you'll find essential updates on San Leandro Unified's many services and programs. Also, we want to celebrate the many facility improvements over the summer. We are especially excited to welcome our community into the new state-of-the-art gymnasium at San Leandro High School this fall. This incredible facility is a true community treasure, made possible by the unwavering support of San Leandro voters who passed our facilities bonds—thank you!

We have all enjoyed seeing our schools filled with the smiling faces of our students over these past several days. Your support is the cornerstone of our success, and together, we'll make this year one of our best yet.

Thank you, and let's make it a great year!

Warm regards,
Dr. Mike McLaughlin
Superintendent

Family Learning Series
SLUSD Family Learning Series is Back!
SLUSD offers online parent and community educational support sessions that provide essential information and strategies for parents/caregivers to support their child’s growth and development. Here are the upcoming sessions:

Wednesday, August 28⋅5:00 – 6:00pm
TOPIC: Welcome to Parent Landing Pad Monthly Series
The Parent Landing Pad allows parents/caregivers to connect, share, and be heard. Our opening session of the Family Landing Pad series provides an overview of the virtual series. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! What support do you need as a parent to prevent burnout, feeling overwhelmed, and disconnection from others? Join other parents for an hour to offer ideas for support and receive support, too. The session is open to all San Leandro parents/caregivers with TK-12th grade students. Raffle Prizes! Spanish and Chinese translations will be provided.

Wednesday, September 11⋅5:00 – 6:00pm
TOPIC: Parent Guilt
Parents and caregivers face many demands—managing housework, jobs, homework, and self-care. A single critical comment can spark parental guilt, leading to self-doubt. In this interactive session, we’ll explore parental guilt and how to counter the shame from constant self-criticism. Open to all San Leandro parents/caregivers with TK-12 students. Raffle prizes available! Spanish and Chinese translations provided.

Single/Co-Parenting Family Landing Pad Series
Tuesday, September 24⋅5:30 – 6:30pm
The Family Landing Pad is a virtual space for SLUSD families to share their experiences of balancing mental, emotional, physical, and financial responsibilities. Blaze Consulting will lead sessions to reframe stress into opportunities, helping families thrive. It is open to single and co-parenting families with TK-12 students. Raffle prizes are available! Spanish and Chinese translations are provided.
