California School Dashboard Summary Report Annual Release
The California Department of Education has released the 2023-24 California School Dashboard, providing a detailed look at key performance metrics for schools and student groups statewide, including the San Leandro Unified School District.
San Leandro, CA—The California Department of Education (CDE) has released the California School Dashboard for the 2023-24 academic year. This website analyzes the status and improvement in state measures for defined student groups during the 2023-24 academic year.

The dashboard uses a five-color scale, ranging from red (lowest performance) to blue (highest performance), to indicate academic performance in English Language Arts and Mathematics, Chronic Absenteeism, English Learner Progress, High School Graduation Rate, Suspension Rate, and College/Career Readiness. Additionally, science performance data is included on the 2024 Dashboard solely for informational purposes and is not assigned a color rating. The results are broken down by various state-defined student groups, including the newly introduced "Long-Term English Learner" group. School administrators, staff, and parent groups regularly analyze this data as an integral part of ongoing efforts for improvement.

Summary Points from the California School Dashboard:

  • Absenteeism and suspension improved on average, while academic performance remained steady.
  • San Leandro High School graduation rates improved, though College and Career preparedness saw a 5.8% decrease.
  • English Language Arts (ELA) scores are significantly higher than math scores for all student groups. Students continue to perform best on science tests.
  • English Learners, Long-term English Learners, students experiencing homelessness, students with disabilities, and Pacific Islander students face growth opportunities, as they were identified in the red category for two or more indicators.
  • SLUSD meets the standards for all five Local Indicators, indicating overall success in performance and accountability.
