DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS SUNDAY NOVEMBER 5 |
|
As daylight saving time ends this weekend, students can look forward to a little extra sleep and brighter mornings. On the first Sunday in November, the clocks "fall back" one hour, which means they gain an additional hour of sleep. This change can be a welcome relief for students, who often struggle with early morning classes and diminished sunlight during the darker months. It's a chance to reset their internal clocks and enjoy a more natural rhythm, potentially improving concentration, mood, and overall well-being. So, as the days grow shorter and nights longer, students can savor that extra hour of sleep and look forward to more energized and productive days. |

Indigenous Peoples’ Heritage Month
November is a special month in SLUSD as we come together to honor and celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Heritage Month. During this time, our schools engage in activities and celebrations that embrace the rich tapestry of Northern, Southern, and Central Native American heritage. This allows us to not only pay tribute to the diverse cultures and histories of Indigenous people but also to celebrate the Native American students, families, and communities that are an integral part of our district. Through instructional activities and celebrations, we better understand contemporary issues, culture, and the significant contributions that Native Americans have made to California, the United States, and the world.

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a colorful and deeply meaningful holiday celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. It's a time when families and communities come together to honor and remember their deceased loved ones. Families create vibrant ofrendas (altars) adorned with marigolds, sugar skulls, and the favorite foods of the departed. These ofrendas serve as a way to welcome the spirits of the deceased back to the world of the living.
