PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Jaguar families,

I want to give you a big THANK YOU for your support with the Obstacle-a-Thon this year. We surpassed our school goal and raised $22,890.22!! Our Jaguars are very excited to silly string their Principal; more details to come on the day and time when this event will take place. The support we received from our community will help us continue to provide field trips and other enrichment opportunities for our Jaguars. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We have a fun-filled week coming up, full of a lot of festivities! Spirit Week is this week and we're looking forward to seeing everyone's creativity; we will also have the Pumpkin Patch in the Jefferson Garden on Wednesday and every student will take home a free pumpkin. We hope you can join us on Thursday evening, at 6pm, to carve our pumpkins together over zoom. The zoom link for pumpkin carving will be sent on Parent Square on Thursday.

As we get ready for our Halloween Parade on October 31st, it's important that everyone in our community follow our safety guidelines. Please see below for our Costume Rules and the logistics of our Halloween Parade.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC) AND ENGLISH LEARNER ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ELAC)

Looking for more ways to participate in our community? Join us for School Site Council (SSC) and/or English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) meetings and bring your ideas and suggestions.

What is the School Site Council (SSC)?
A decision-making body composed of the school Principal, teachers, school personnel and families to review school data and determine the use of our Title I Federal Funds. The SSC is also responsible for giving approval to the school's yearly School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). For more information about SSC, click School Site Council (SSC) to read our bylaws.
First SSC Meeting: October 23, 2023 via Zoom
Click on the link to see the agenda: SSC Agenda 10.23.23

What is the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)?
An advisory committee composed of the school Administration, a parent/guardian board, and  parents/guardians whose students are considered English Language Learners. This committee is focused on supporting our English Language Learner community; at these meetings we discuss the school's programs for academic supports of English Language Learners, the process for Reclassifying students from English Learners to English Proficient, and suggestions for improvements to the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) centered on English Language Learner programming.

Next ELAC Meeting: November 17, 2023 @ 9-10 AM

VOLUNTEER SUPERVISION

If you are interested in volunteering in the mornings or during lunch recess to help us supervise, please contact our parent facilitator, Gloria Fernandez at gfernandez@slusd.us

to make sure you are cleared to volunteer. You must be cleared as a level 2 volunteer to support us with supervision.

STUDY TRIP CHAPERONES
We need your help to make sure these trips can happen! Every class must meet a specific ratio of adult-to-student in order to participate in a trip. This means that we need chaperones or our study trips will have to be canceled. Only parents who are cleared to volunteer can attend study trips. If you're interested in participating in future study trips, please see our parent facilitator, Gloria Fernandez, to get cleared as volunteer.

Please be aware that families should not meet the class at their trip location or bring their child directly to the location, as those are violations of SLUSD's study trip protocols. All students participating in a trip are expected to arrive at school by the designated time and they must travel to the trip location with their class. Any chaperones attending a study trip must also be a cleared volunteer and need to sign in at the front office on the day of the field trip to receive their volunteer sticker and to travel with the class.

                         MORNING CAMPUS GATES
All students should be in their classroom line by 8:05 AM. School begins at 8:07 AM and the late bell rings at 8:10AM. If students arrive after the late bell has rung, our staff will send them to the office to pick up a tardy slip. Families for safety reasons, please do not attempt to enter the buildings to drop off your child in the classroom when they are late.  Our campus gates close at 8:15 AM and we ask that all families please exit the campus at that time so that we can secure the perimeter and lock all the gates. Thank you in advance for your partnership in keeping our campus safe and secure.

  COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL

Our next Coffee with the Principal  is scheduled for Friday, November 17, at 8:30 AM at the blue tables under the canopy, next to the cafeteria. Come enjoy some warm coffee and pastries and have a chat with me. I hope to see you there!
