California Assessment of Students Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

Summary Report Annual Release

SAN LEANDRO, CA - The California Department of Education (CDE) has released the California Assessment of Students Performance and Progress (CAASPP) Summary Report and the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) data for the 2022-23 academic year. While individual state assessment data is released to students, families, and educators beginning in June, the CAASPP and ELPAC public data for the 2022-23 academic year is available now on the California Department of Education website as of October 18, 2023.

These assessments are aligned with California's academic standards and measure student performance in key subject areas, including English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and English language proficiency for our English Learners. School administrators, staff, and parent groups review this data as part of our processes for continuous improvement.

Summary Points for CAASPP and ELPAC:

  • Some student groups have shown slight improvements in the percentage of students meeting or surpassing English Language Arts, Math, and Science academic standards. However, most have not yet fully returned to the levels observed before the pandemic.

  • Since 2019, the percentage of students meeting or exceeding standard on the CA Science Test has steadily increased.

  • More students are meeting standards in oral language than in the reading and written language components of the ELPAC.
