Happy Sunday Jaguar families and welcome to the Fall season!
This is my favorite season because I love big cozy sweaters, boots, and anything tasting of pumpkin! We're getting ready for some big events taking place within the next month and need your assistance with some:
-
This Fri, Sept 29: Obstacle-a-thon! We need volunteers to help us set up the obstacle course on Thursday evening. Set up will take place after school, when kids are gone. Therefore, you do not need to be a cleared volunteer to help with the set up on Thursday. We also need volunteers for the actual event on Friday; this event takes place during the school day and volunteers will need to be level 2 cleared to help the entire day. You can still help us even if you can't volunteer: we need donations of water bottles to keep our Jaguars hydrated; water bottles can be dropped off in the office. You can sign up to be a volunteer on Thursday or Friday by CLICKING HERE. Want to come cheer your student on? Absolutely! I'll send details this week showing where families can stand to enjoy the fun and cheer our Jaguars on.
- Also, we now have an online system to help us collect Obstacle-a-thon funds, in addition to cash and checks. Thank you, PTA! You can share this link through social media and/or text it to family and friends for a quick and easy way to help your child raise funds for the event. Simply remind sponsors to enter your child's name and their teacher's name in order to credit your classroom for the funds. -
Oct 9-13: Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place for TK-5 and there will be minimum days. TK/Kinder will dismissed at 11:40 AM and Gr 1-5 will be dismissed at 12:50 PM.
-
Oct 16-17: Parent-Teacher Conferences will continue for Gr 4-5 only (these grades have more students to meet with). There will be minimum days for Gr 4-5 only on these days.
-
Oct 20: Fall Picture Day! More details to come in October. We will need volunteers to help us with this event.
Congratulations to the first recipients of the "Student-of-the-Week" awards last week. We've partnered with Papa Murphy's to celebrate a Jaguar in every classroom every week. One student in every classroom will receive a voucher from their teacher for a free Take 'N' Bake Pizza from Papa Murphy's for earning the Student of the Week Award. Go Jaguars and thank you Papa Murphy's!
Lastly, a message from Vice Principal McJilton: We are continuing to encourage our students to choose fruits and vegetables at our salad bar in addition to the main lunch food item. Please review our lunch menu. Reviewing our lunch menu can help your child decide whether they would prefer to bring lunch from home if they do not like what is being offered at school.

Have a wonderful week everyone! Go Jaguars! Principal Valencia

PTA UPDATES
Our Wel-Gum back membership drive was a huge success! Our 3rd graders received the most gumballs, and will receive an extra recess, however everyone did great. We have over 130 members and many families offering their support. Thank you all!
School gear sale has been finalized. All pre-ordered items have been placed. Please expect to receive your orders in 2-3 weeks. Deliveries will be made to your child(ren)'s classrooms.
This Friday, Sept. 29th, is our annual Obstacle-A-thon FUNdraising event!!! Level 2 volunteers are welcomed to join us in distributing water, directing pathways, or cheering on our kids! Packets for this fundraiser have been sent home. Please encourage your child(ren) to help our school meet the goal of $20,000 so the school can silly string Ms. Valencia!
You can sign up to be a volunteer for the event on Thursday or Friday by CLICKING HERE.
NEW!!! In addition to cash or check donations, we have created a new online page to simplify the donation collection process for our fundraiser. Feel free to share on social media or send this link to family and friends. Donors will need to indicate the student and teacher's name so that the donation will be credited to your student. Here is the link for donation collection online: Jefferson Obstacle-A-Thon Donations Link
Friday, Oct. 27th is Trunk or Treat & Movie Night! More information for this event will be provided soon.
*We will need volunteers for these events to happen, so please complete your Level 2 volunteer packets as soon as possible.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC) AND ENGLISH LEARNER ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ELAC)
Looking for more ways to participate in our community? Join us for School Site Council (SSC) and/or English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) meetings and bring your ideas and suggestions. Please also review the Family Compact Form and learn more about how we can partner together to help every child reach their academic potential.
What is the School Site Council (SSC)?
A decision-making body composed of the school Principal, teachers, school personnel and families to review school data and determine the use of our Title I Federal Funds. The SSC is also responsible for giving approval to the school's yearly School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). This year we have 3 openings on our SSC Board for Jaguar parents/guardians to join. For more information about SSC, click School Site Council (SSC) to read our bylaws.
First SSC Meeting: October 23, 2023 via Zoom
What is the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)?
An advisory committee composed of the school Administration, a parent/guardian board, and parents/guardians whose students are considered English Language Learners. This committee is focused on supporting our English Language Learner community; at these meetings we discuss the school's programs for academic supports of English Language Learners, the process for Reclassifying students from English Learners to English Proficient, and suggestions for improvements to the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) centered on English Language Learner programming.
Next ELAC Meeting: November 17, 2023 @ 9-10 AM

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM (ASES)
If you would like to enroll your students to our Boys & Girls Clubs after school program, please sign up on the waitlist using the QR code below. Please keep in mind that our program enrollment is already at its full capacity. We are actively working on expanding our enrollment capacity to meet the needs of the community.
If you have any questions, please contact me at noelle@bgcsl.org

VOLUNTEER SUPERVISIONIf you are interested in volunteering in the mornings or during lunch recess to help us supervise, please contact our parent facilitator, Gloria Fernandez at gfernandez@slusd.us
to make sure you are cleared to volunteer. You must be cleared as a level 2 volunteer to support us with supervision.
STUDY TRIP CHAPERONESWe need your help to make sure these trips can happen! Every class must meet a specific ratio of adult-to-student in order to participate in a trip. This means that we need chaperones or our study trips will have to be canceled. Only parents who are cleared to volunteer can attend study trips. If you're interested in participating in future study trips, please see our parent facilitator, Gloria Fernandez, to get cleared as volunteer.
Please be aware that families should not meet the class at their trip location or bring their child directly to the location, as those are violations of SLUSD's study trip protocols. All students participating in a trip are expected to arrive at school by the designated time and they must travel to the trip location with their class. Any chaperones attending a study trip must also be a cleared volunteer and need to sign in at the front office on the day of the field trip to receive their volunteer sticker and to travel with the class. |

MORNING CAMPUS GATES All students should be in their classroom line by 8:05 AM. School begins at 8:07 AM and the late bell rings at 8:10AM. If students arrive after the late bell has rung, our staff will send them to the office to pick up a tardy slip. Families for safety reasons, please do not attempt to enter the buildings to drop off your child in the classroom when they are late. Our campus gates close at 8:15 AM and we ask that all families please exit the campus at that time so that we can secure the perimeter and lock all the gates. Thank you in advance for your partnership in keeping our campus safe and secure.
