Open House is THIS THURSDAY May 9th
Our school will be hosting an Open House for families! Students are excited to share some of their school work & projects with their families!
Open House schedule, Thursday, May 9
6:00-6:15 Welcome families! in cafeteria
6:15-7:15 doors open to classrooms
6:30-8:00pm Book Fair in Library
Dear Halkin Parents & Guardians,
Your Parent Teacher Committee is proud to announce that the Scholastic Book Fair is back! The book fair will be open beginning Monday, May 6th thru Friday, May 10th in the school library! Your student will visit the fair during their classroom’s library time. The fair will also be open during select days after school and during Open House on Thursday, May 9th.
For a sneak peak of the event, please check out our school’s Scholastic homepage at: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/halkinelementary The homepage will give you access to preview the books at this year’s fair, set up your student’s eWallet and much more! The book fair will accept cash, credit cards and eWallet only. Book fair eWallet is a digital payment option that’s a safe, convenient alternative to cash. Go to the school’s Scholastic home page, scroll down to the book fair e-wallet and select get started. The account owner simply adds funds and/or invites family and friends to contribute. At the time of checkout, your student’s eWallet account can be looked up on the register or scanned for payment at the fair.
PTC is also looking for volunteers to help run the book fair between the hours of 8:00am-3:30pm and during the evening of Open House on Thursday, May 9th.
Here are some of the volunteer roles that we need to fill:
• Fair Take down on Friday, May 12
• Door Monitors
• Student Monitors
• Keeping the book fair organized and neat
• Replenishing books/products throughout the day
• Cashiers
Happy reading,
Your Halkin Parent Teacher Committee
We welcome everyone to join us for our annual Multicultural Night Thursday, May 23rd from 5:30pm-7:30pm held in the school cafeteria and primary blacktop. Join us for live entertainment, food from around the world and learn about the various cultures which make up the Halkin community.
We are also still seeking out performers (student, family, community, teachers), booths and volunteers for this year's event! If you have a talent that you would like to share or if you would like to host a booth, please email the PTC.
Finally, events like Multicultural Night rely on volunteers coming together to create such a wonderful event. Please consider volunteering your time, even 1 hour makes a difference! Please sign up on Parent Square or alert Parent Facilitator, Angelica Franco.
We look forward to seeing you!

Community NewsMental Health Awareness Month is observed in May every year to raise awareness about mental health issues and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness. It provides an opportunity to educate people about mental health's importance, encourage them to seek help when needed, and promote ways to maintain good mental health.
Mental health affects everyone, and we can all take steps to support mental health and wellness in ourselves and others. This can include exercise, good nutrition, self-care, and supporting others by listening without judgment, offering encouragement, and connecting them to professional help when needed.
If you or someone you know wants to be connected to a mental health care provider, contact Care Solace, a complimentary and confidential mental health care coordination service provided by San Leandro Unified School District: Call 888-515-0595. Multilingual support is available 24/7/365. Visit www.caresolace.com/slusdfamilies and either search on your own OR click “Book Appointment” for assistance by video chat, email, or phone.
Important Disclaimer - Mental health resources such as hotlines, support groups, online forums, and self-help materials are not meant to replace counseling or connecting with trusted adults. While they can provide valuable information and support, they should be viewed as supplementary resources to professional help and trusted adults in a child’s life. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health concerns, please consult with a mental health professional for guidance on individualized resources and support. |
