Box Tops and Labels for Education <\/u>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/div>
We collect Box Tops and Labels For Education to help bring more money to Roosevelt. We get ten cents per Box Top. It may not seem like much, but these dimes really add up, earning the PTA more than $1,000 last year. Collecting Box Tops is an easy way for us to raise funds because typically they are on items you already purchase. For a complete list of products with Box Tops labels, visit <\/span>www.boxtops4education.com<\/span><\/a>. Ask your friends, family and neighbors to clip too!<\/span><\/div>

Coffee and Conversation<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0You can attend Coffee and Conversation with Principal Forrester every first Wednesday of the month from 8:10 to 9 a.m.\u00a0 in the Teacher\u2019s Lounge. You can ask questions, connect with other parents, and get informed about school activities and events.<\/span><\/div>

Community on the Green<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Bring the family, a blanket, and your own picnic dinner, and enjoy a lovely fall evening with the Roosevelt Elementary community. Music and entertainment, lemonade, and desserts are provided.<\/span><\/div>

Composters \/ Community Garden<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Before we started our composting program there were more than seven cans of garbage generated at lunchtime, EVERY DAY. Now that we are composting and recycling in Restaurant Roosevelt, we generate only one can of garbage each day, along with lots of wonderful compost material.\u00a0 <\/span>Learn More ><\/span><\/a><\/div>

Dads\u2019 Club<\/strong><\/a><\/p>

Roosevelt’s Dads’ Club is a service organization of parents who supply fun for kids, fundraisers to help the teachers’ wish list, and more. \u00a0Meetings are often the 3rd Thursday of school month at 6:30. \u00a0Come and get involved. Both mom’s and dad’s, grandparents, and guardians are welcome to join.\u00a0 President this year is Steve Moore. VP is Ray Hathorn, Secretary is Rob Bae, Treasurer is OPEN<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

Fall Festival<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

This annual event is a special opportunity for school families and members of the community to come together for an afternoon of fun. Past years have included classroom-sponsored carnival games, great food, vendor booths, a bake sale, a dunk tank, entertainment, and more! All students are given a fun pack good for tickets and lunch.<\/span><\/p>

Family Art & Rhythm Night<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Family Art and Music Night is a fun and inspiring evening of art making for the entire family. \u00a0Create art to the sounds of a live percussion band. \u00a0Popcorn and baked goods are available and proceeds go to the Roosevelt Art Program.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>

Founder\u2019s Day<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

An annual PTA sponsored event in March. \u00a0We celebrate the PTA founders of past and present. \u00a0Recognition awards are presented to individuals for their contributions of time to our school. \u00a0An evening dessert social of $5 per person takes place in the evening.<\/span><\/div>

Hobby Night<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

This is an opportunity to bring and share your favorite collection or unique hobby with other Roosevelt Hornet families. \u00a0Free to all f<\/span>am<\/span>ilies! \u00a0Dads’ Club sponsors this fun-filled evening.<\/span><\/div>

Hornet Hustle<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Four times a year – October, December, March, and June – our school community gathers to celebrate who we are. \u00a0How do we celebrate? \u00a0We sing and dance together. \u00a0Primary grade students (First, Second and Third) sing and sign (American Sign Language) songs, and Intermediate students (Fourth and Fifth graders) lead dances for all the enjoy and follow. \u00a0Typically from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m., Hornet Hustle is an unique, spirit-raising event not to be missed.<\/span><\/div>

Learning Academy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

This is our reading intervention program for students who are not reading at grade level. \u00a0It helps them improve their fluency and comprehension skills with phonics. \u00a0K, 4, 5 grade students attend reading academy during the regular school day. \u00a0Grade 1-3 students attend school for an additional hour from 2:15 – 3:00.<\/span><\/div>

LGBTQS<\/strong> Alliance<\/strong><\/u><\/p>

Roosevelt\u2019s LGBTQS Alliance is a group of parents and staff working together to promote safety, respect, and support for LGBTQ youth, staff, families, and allies in San Leandro schools. <\/span>Learn More ><\/a><\/span><\/div>

Outdoor Education<\/u>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/div>
Fourth and fifth grade students have an opportunity to continue learning in the great outdoors. \u00a0Camp Arroyo in Livermore is one full day of outdoor adventures available to every fourth grader. \u00a0Exploring New Horizons at Pigeon Point on the coast near Pescadero is a 3-day, 2-night adventure available to every fifth grader.<\/span><\/div>

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Our PTA meets monthly to discuss school-wide activities, events, and ways to support our community.<\/span>

Restaurant Roosevelt<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

The Multipurpose Room (and the outdoor seating area when the weather is favorable) is transformed into Restaurant Roosevelt during lunchtime and restaurant-worthy manners are expected.<\/span><\/p>

Roosapalooza<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

A Dads’ Club sponsored event, Roosapalooza happens one Friday night in late winter or early spring. \u00a0At least one really good band consisting of various Roosevelt dads play often at the Englander. \u00a0Proceeds support our marvelous performing arts program.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>

School Site Council<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

The school site council is a group of teachers, parents, classified employees, and <\/span>students (at the high school level) that works with the principal to develop, review and\u00a0<\/span>evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. The members of the site council\u00a0<\/span>are elected by their peers. The School Site council makes decisions on the school budget and the academic or school improvement plan. In addition to academic planning, the school site council also responsible for making decisions about parent engagement, safety and discipline.<\/span><\/p>

Special Person\u2019s Day<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Originally “Grandparents’ Day” has evolved into a day for students to bring a special guest to share in their classroom. Guests typically share about a special memory with the student, their job, or a life lesson.<\/span><\/h4>

Spring Concert<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

One Friday in March we feature our 1st – 5th grade students in a delightful vocal music concert. \u00a0It is led by our vocal music specialist. \u00a0The Roosevelt Choir is also featured in attire purchased by funds from Dads’ Club.<\/span><\/div>

Teacher Appreciation Week<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0Teacher Appreciation Week is an opportunity to show our teachers how much we appreciate the work they do with our children and families. \u00a0See your room parents for more details.<\/span><\/div>

Volunteer Tea<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0Near the end of the school year, our staff celebrates all of our wonderful parent volunteers with a lavish spread of finger foods and desserts. \u00a0We reminisce about the year gone by and strengthen parent teacher bonds. \u00a0Childcare is provided.<\/span><\/div>

Voces Unidas<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/p>

Voces Unidas is a parent advisory group aimed at families whose children have a language other than English as their first language. \u00a0The group meets monthly (check newsletter). \u00a0The group is responsible for the following: \u00a0(1) Advising the principal and staff on programs and services for English Learners (2) Serving as liaisons to and from the District’s DELAC (3) Collaborating with other Roosevelt parent led groups and (4) Generating an understanding of the importance of CELDT testing. \u00a0Meetings are translated into Spanish.<\/span><\/div>

\u00a0Walk-a-Thon<\/strong><\/u><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students participate in a very fun fundraising activity. \u00a0Students are asked to join the staff in a 2 mile hike around and around the Roosevelt block. \u00a0We walk on the sidewalks that surround Roosevelt School. \u00a0Along the way walkers are treated to healthy snacks, water, stickers, music, and encouraging support from the fans that surround the block. \u00a0This is a fundraiser so students are asked to find sponsors for their walk and the money is kept in an account to be credited towards their cost of the outdoor education program.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>

White Elephant Sale<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

PTA\/Dads’ Club sponsored giant garage sale. \u00a0Families donate gently used items to be sold on a Saturday as a fundraiser. \u00a0The funds raised are used by the PTA and Dads’ Club to support classroom instruction and school activities.<\/span><\/div>

Winter Reading Program<\/u><\/strong><\/p>
