2021-2022 COVID-19 School Guidance for SLUSD (as of 7/22/21)
The Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) and the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) have released the Alameda County 2021-2022 School Guidance. These recommendations guide the district’s health and safety protocols for the upcoming school year. This guidance aligns with recommendations from the State of California Public Health Department. SLUSD schools will follow all local and state recommendations, which include:

Masks are required indoors for all students and staff in TK-12 schools but will be optional outdoors. Schools will provide masks to any student or staff who does not have one.
Physical distancing is not required. Recent evidence indicates that in-person instruction can occur safely when other mitigation strategies (e.g., masking) are implemented.
Health screening will continue for students and staff. SLUSD strongly recommends any student or staff member who feels sick stay home and not return to in-person instruction until 24 hours after symptoms subside.
COVID case reporting, contact tracing, and investigation procedures will continue to follow California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Guidelines, which can be reviewed here.
On-site meal services will resume at all SLUSD schools. Schools will maximize physical distance as much as possible during meal times and incorporate outdoor spaces as much as feasible.

Schools will reinforce healthy hand hygiene practices, such as washing hands, avoiding contact with eyes, nose, and mouth, and covering coughs and sneezes. Schools are stocked with hygiene supplies such as soap, tissues, face coverings, and hand sanitizer.

COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended for all eligible people including staff, students, and adults sharing homes with these members of K-12 communities, but not required to attend school. See vaccination locations and information for Alameda County here.

New California laws (AB/SB 130) outline the expectation for all students to attend the 2021-2022 school year fully in person.  However, a few students may be unable to return physically, due to medical/health concerns. SLUSD will provide online options through the Independent Study program. Go to www.slusd.us for information.

The first day of school for all students is Wednesday, August 18. Arrival and dismissal times are posted on school websites. More information, including school-specific details, will be coming in August.
