Press Release: SLUSD Welcomes New School Board Trustee Jackie Calderón Perl

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SLUSD Welcomes New School Board Trustee Jackie Calderón Perl

SAN LEANDRO, CA – Calderón Perl brings an abundance of educational experience to her new position representing the district’s area 2 constituents

San Leandro Unified welcomed Jackie Calderón Perl to the school board at the December SLUSD school board meeting as the new trustee elected to represent Area 2, replacing outgoing trustee Liz Toledo. This trustee area covers the northeastern corner of San Leandro. Calderón Perl is a former public school bilingual teacher, coach, and administrator with an extensive background in multilingual education. Her most recent position was as the District Director for the Office of Assemblymember Mia Bonta, where she supported advocacy for San Leandro’s needs in the legislature, along with the cities of Oakland and Alameda.

“I am very honored to join the board and serve our community,” said Calderón Perl, “I feel my background in public education, particularly with multilingual communities, is a perfect match for the district's strategic goals. I am deeply grateful to have been elected to serve our students, our families, and the SLUSD staff.”

Fellow trustees James Aguilar (Area 6) and Leo Sheridan (Area 4) ran uncontested for their school board seats. They were sworn in with Calderón Perl, who attended the meeting via phone due to family illness. The meeting also facilitated the annual school board reorganization, which moves Peter Oshinski (at large) into the presidency. Monique Tate will serve as the board’s vice president.
