Title VI Educational Program
California has one of the largest American Indian student populations in the country.
Children, parents, or grandparents or great grandparents that are part of an organized Indian group or recognized tribe from North America including Alaska and Hawaii are eligible to receive services under the Title VI Indian Education Program.
The Indian Education Program is aimed at providing a variety of supportive services to help American Indian children reach their full potential in school.
Support Services Include:
- Academic Support – Homework help and skill-building activities in math and language arts from grades K – 12 throughout the school year. Ratio 3 students to 1 mentor.
- Cultural Activities – Focus on traditional Native American activities such as Native crafts, Native foods, traditional values, storytelling, field trips, and much more.
- Summer school enrichment program – Gives the children an added opportunity to reinforce their academic skills in a cultural context.
- Parent Committee – The parents are an integral part of the program. Their input and contribution help shape the entire program.
- Program Serves 4 Districts – Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE), San Leandro, San Lorenzo, and Hayward.
