Dear SLUSD Community,
I am pleased to share our Reopening Plan that was discussed at last night’s school board meeting. The plan includes the components required by the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) to reopen our school facilities and will be submitted for their review.
Topic: Dealing with Stress and Fatigue
The Winter holidays are known to be a time of joy, family, and giving. Yet, they are also known to bring experiences of stress and fatigue. In this session, we will co-create space to name three types of fatigues. Then we will articulate real strategies to manage stress and interrogate our resistance to self-care. Participants will learn strategies to manage themselves and others’ expectations during Winter break. The session will be interactive, include fun activities, and support families with TK-12th grade students. Spanish and Chinese translation provided.

Topic: Family Literacy Night
In this session, we will discuss the key focus areas of SLUSD’s approach to literacy instruction and help you understand the literacy skills your child is learning in each grade band. You will have the chance to see samples of texts and samples of writing at each grade band and learn what to look for and listen for when your child talks about reading, writing, listening, and speaking in school.

San Leandro Unified School District, San Leandro Public Library, and Alameda County Library have formed an innovative new partnership to increase access to more eBooks and e-audiobooks for students. This unique collaboration strives to promote literacy and digital learning by streamlining the schools’ and the library’s digital reading resources in one app. As a result, students can learn anytime, anywhere because of the convenience, ease of reading on-the-go, and the inherent popularity of technology.
Tonight’s topic: RELATIONSHIPS IN THE YEAR OF COVID-19 The holiday season intensifies the tension between quarantine and maintaining family and social relationships. In this session, we will look at this tension with a socio-emotional lens. We will also brainstorm ways to hold connections with others while sheltering in place. From this place. we can then stretch our imagination of what’s possible with our students. Please bring journals or paper and a pen as we plan action steps for social connection. Spanish and Chinese translation provided.

Dear SLUSD Community,
Earlier this week Governor Newsom announced that Alameda County has moved into the Purple Tier under the State of California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy1. Alameda is one of 41 California counties that have moved into this most-restrictive tier, which shows that we now face a new, troubling stage of this pandemic.
The LCAP Federal Addendum is meant to supplement the LCAP to ensure that eligible LEAs have the opportunity to meet the Local Educational Agency (LEA) Plan provisions of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
