CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY |
|
Please help us learn more about what is happening in our classrooms, our playgrounds, our schools, and our district! |

|
The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is an annual anonymous, confidential survey of all 5th to 11th-grade students, SLUSD families, and staff. Surveys will be accessible on your school’s website starting in January. The survey helps us to analyze data on the following:
- Youth health and wellness
- School connectedness
- School climate and safety
- School violence
The results of this survey support our efforts to reduce student risk behaviors and build schools that are drug-free, safe, and supportive environments. Parental consent is required for 5th and 6th graders. Watch for a permission slip coming via ParentSquare for your 5th or 6th grader, and ensure it is returned so we can hear about their experiences to strengthen our programs and services.

Jefferson Elementary’s Maliah Best and McKinley Elementary’s Kena Abera received the Superintendent’s Award at the November SLUSD School Board meeting. Both students were nominated by their principals for demonstrating excellence inside and outside the classroom. Maliah is in 5th grade, where she recently developed a proposal to start a student council and even found a sponsoring teacher! Kena is also in 5th grade and is a passionate young scholar who has far exceeded grade-level academic standards and is continually pursuing learning beyond the curriculum. Join us in congratulating both students and their families for this recognition of their impressive achievements! |

SLUSD’s online parent sessions provide strategies for parents/caregivers to support their child’s growth and development. Join us at an upcoming session:
Tuesday, December 6,⋅6:00 – 7:00 pm • African American Family Landing Pad SLUSD and Blaze Consulting host a supportive space for Black Families and Families Raising Black Children. Join San Leandro families as we explore how to help our children thrive in San Leandro schools. What are the supports we need as caregivers? Where do we get "stuck" as parents, and what are some tools that will help us move forward? Let’s acknowledge and celebrate the resilience of Black peoples and the people of the African Diaspora. There will be a raffle for gift cards at the end of the session.

This session is open to all San Leandro parents/caregivers with TK-12th grade students. Raffle Prizes! Spanish and Chinese translations will be provided.

Your school will distribute at-home COVID test kits to all students before the Winter Break (December 26 through January 6). Each kit contains one test with instructions on how to administer the test. Please have your student(s) test on the Sunday before returning to school. If your child tests positive, keep them home and report the positive result to your child’s school. School staff will provide further information regarding when they can return. Testing is strongly recommended but not required for students to return to school after break. If your student did not receive a test, please screen them for COVID symptoms on the morning they return. |
